TICHAKUNDA SCHOOL

The Tichakunda Center has been developed in the Hatcliffe Extension, within one of the poorest communities of the Harare district, in Zimbabwe. Despite the geographical proximity to the capital, the Hatcliffe Extension is not connected to water, to the sewerage system and to the electrical system.

These issues are the main cause of infections and diseases that mainly affect children. The 55% of the population has less than 15 years old. The local community leader, Winnie Masaraure, with its funds, has started a Community center, the Day Care Center, which acts as a pre-school for children from 2 to 6 years old.

Moreover, she has started a school for children from 6 to 14 years old in corrugated iron shacks, thanks to the work of volunteers from the community and the help of visitors and local entities.

In 2015 and in 2016 Mission Bambini has promoted the building of a new school: the works have been carried out in 4 consecutive steps, which brought to the building of toilettes, two storerooms and dozens of classrooms. In addition, thanks to the building of a well with solar pump, it has been possible the connection to the sewerage system.
